Evening Primrose
Evening Primrose is a delightful oil that comes from the Primrose plant, or Oenothera biennes. It is also sometimes called Sundrop flower due to the yellowish leaves which grow close together on each side of a small stem. The plant lies close to the ground and the flowers bloom in the summer and fall seasons, usually after sunset or on cloudy days. The oil is a yellow-gold color with a slightly nutty smell and taste. This plant is native to North America and Native Americans would use the boiled poultice of the root to soothe bruises and other trauma to the skin and body.
The Primrose oil contains a large amount of an essential fatty acid called gamma linolenic acid, or GLA. This is one of the greatest things for your skin that you can find anywhere, and it comes directly from Mother Nature. This acid is responsible for maintaining good cell structure as well as helping with other skin and digestive issues. Evening primrose has long been used for the skin for many different reasons.
It is a great anti-inflammatory and that is helpful in many different cases. For instance, should you have Eczema which includes red and painful inflammation or swelling, the Primrose Oil would effectively calm and soothe the area. Other conditions which this oil might soothe would be Rosacea, Acne or even insect bites. You shouldn't apply the oil to broken skin, though as it may cause irritation. Painful and inflamed rashes, hives or other skin irritations can be soothed effectively by this oil so that you feel better and aren't in so much pain.
Of course, as stated above, the primrose oil has been used for centuries for bruises, and a dab of the oil will heal bruises faster, restoring the skin back to its healthy condition. It also increases the blood flow to the surface of the skin which gives the skin a healthy, glowing look. This oil is beneficial for the skin and can be taken orally as capsules or on food as well as applied topically to the skin for maximum skin health. Aside from the healing benefits that the oil contains, it is also a great booster which helps prevent premature aging including fine lines and wrinkles. If you want to prevent this or if you are suffering from the above conditions, try Evening Primrose oil!
